The blue whale is the largest animal that has ever lived. Some are 100 feet long and can weigh over 175 tons. The biggest one ever measured had a heart the size of a Volkswagen! Bad thing however is that , wikipedia said “due to their enormous size, power and speed, adult blue whales have virtually no natural predators” yet ‘the IUCN Red List counts the blue whale as “endangered” as it has since the list’s inception..since the introduction of the whaling ban, studies have failed to ascertain whether the conservation reliant global blue whale population is increasing or remaining stable.”
But talking about the blue whale’s greatness in its size, that leads us to the Genesis, where we are told, “God created great sea creatures and every living things that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind” [1:21]
When the Creator revealed Himself to job in his time of suffering, he used the giants of the deep, including the mysterious Leviathan, to illustrate His divine power, His unsearchable nature and incomparable character.
“Shall one not be overwhelmed at the sight of Leviathan? No one is so fierce that he would dare stir him up. Who then is able to stand against Me?…Everything under heaven is Mine” [Job 41:9-11]
God uses the whale, the Leviathan, and all the giants of the deep to remind us of how awesome God is as Creator of the universe [Rom 1:20]. The One who made creatures that cannot be controlled is Himself beyond our control and understanding.
Just as frightening thunderstorm makes us stand in awe of the Creator, so should the blue whale.
